Special Collections
A portion of the nonfiction collection on the main floor of the Fishersville Library is dedicated to local history and family research. These titles are listed in the catalog with an SC designation and include family histories, local records, manuscripts, periodicals, pamphlets, and more.
The Augusta County Genealogical Society (ACGS) Library is located on the mezzanine level of the Fishersville Library and is open to the public free of charge.

During open hours a volunteer will answer; outside of hours leave a message and they will return your call. The ACGS collection includes periodicals, pamphlets, manuscripts, individual family records, research files, and more.
Want to digitize old family photographs, record family stories, or preserve local history? Augusta County Library’s Memory Lab at the Stuarts Draft Library Station provides access to technology for preserving family and community memories. Reservations are required.
Ancestry.com — Free in-library access at any Augusta County Library location. Search millions of records, original documents, and family histories. Please note: Ancestry.com is only available free when using a library computer on-site.
HeritageHub — Search U.S. obituaries and death notices from 1704 to today, with deep coverage from all 50 states and original obituary images. Available 24/7.

Chronicling America — Free access to digitized historic American newspaper pages from the National Digital Newspaper Program
DAR Genealogical Research System — Access to materials amassed by the Daughters of the American Revolution since its founding in 1890
Fold3 — Census records from 1790 through 1930, along with Confederate soldier records; includes a quick link to Augusta County, Virginia records

Valley of the Shadow — Created by the University of Virginia Library and the Virginia Center for Digital History; thousands of letters, diaries, and newspapers chronicling life in Augusta County, Virginia and Franklin County, Pennsylvania from John Brown’s Raid through Reconstruction
